Game & Forest


A stag with a shining cross between its antlers appeared to St Hubert of Liège (656-727) during a hunt on Good Friday. St Hubert is the patron saint of hunters, gamekeepers and forest workers, but also of armourers and archers. We are dedicating this weekend at the Retreat and Castle Hotel Burg Schlitz to him, as hunting was already a great tradition in the Count's time.


30 October 2025: Arrival day

At 6 pm we go to the vaulted cellar together. There will be a small wine tasting with our sommelier Franziska Pauli, accompanied by venison goulash and a nut cake with wild honey.

31 October 2025:

After a hearty breakfast, we meet at 2 pm for a ‘hunting tea’ and a venison sausage on the castle lawn.

Afterwards, we will accompany truffle-hunting dog Charly into the forest and search for truffles in our castle park together with his master Mario Gohmert.

At 6 pm we will meet for a light 3-course truffle menu in the Brasserie Louise. Our head chef Maik Albrecht and our sommelier Franziska Pauli will be creating the evening with specialities from the region. In October, the harvest and hunting season, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers all kinds of specialities.

1 November 2025:

Enjoy an extensive breakfast.

At lunchtime, we will meet in the Schinkel Hall and look forward to a concert by the brass band ‘Hauptstadtblech’.

Afterwards, we will challenge you to an archery competition.

At 7.00 pm we invite you to the 5-course gourmet menu on the theme of hunting & forest by our chef Maik Albrecht in the gourmet restaurant ‘der Wappensaal’ with wine accompaniment by our sommelière Franziska Pauli. Our ‘house and court hunters’, the von der Goltz family, will also be there to tell you all sorts of exciting things about hunting in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

2 November 2025:

After our extensive breakfast, we go to our castle park with a mushroom expert, rummage through the forest and look for mushrooms together, which are explained to us on the spot. A little surprise awaits us in the forest!

In the evening we organise a small courtly feast. Pheasant, wild goose and wild duck take centre stage, wonderfully accompanied by regional vegetables, all served on platters to share in the old courtly manner.

3 November 2025: St. Hubert's Day

After breakfast, we meet at 10.30 a.m. for a reading in the Schinkel Hall. You will hear classics such as ‘The Wild Hunter’ by Wilhelm Busch, from ‘The Terrible Hunt’ by Mark Twain and ‘On the Hunt’ by Loriot. Duration approx. 1 hour.

Afterwards, it's time to leave.

The programme is subject to change. Minimum number of participants 20 guests.

A small note: Maik Albrecht generally decides the menus according to the season and market situation. Please inform us in advance of any allergies, preferences or intolerances.


Our ‘Wild&Wald’ event from the perspective of the 5-element theory:

While wine tasting generally favours the metal element, with our special hunting tea we make sure that all 5 elements are equally supplied. In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), a game menu primarily strengthens the element wood, while mushrooms are attributed more to the element earth. We carefully approach the element of fire with special spices, but also pay attention to the element of water with special pulses to harmonise all the elements in the body.
